Brief About Physiotherapy
Physiotherapy or Physical therapy is techniques of treating & curing various conditions of pains & injuries like Physical disabilities, Muscles weakness, Sleep Disc, Joint pain, Neck pain, Frozen Shoulder, Knee joint pain, Back pain, lower back pain, Spinal cord disorder, Arthritis, Post knee / hip replacements, Post fracture rehabilitation, Ligaments sprains by using Electrical Machine therapies, Exercise therapies, Hydro therapy, Cold therapy, Hot therapy treatments.
Physiotherapy has come a long way from the early nineteenth century when massage therapy and manipulation were seen as being outside the scope of medical science, which at the time focused on drug treatment and surgical procedures. In those days physiotherapy involved heat, electrical stimulation and water based applications to improve movement and function. This practice was seen by some as exploiting the greatly ill and innocent and therefore deemed useless. It wasn't until World War II that some significant advances began to be made, but still decades passed before the profession could gain the gratitude as a specialized field of medical.
Many benefits are available to the public through the widening scope of physiotherapy. The profession addresses orthopedic, neurological, cardiopulmonary and cardiac problems among infants, children's adults and geriatric populations. Some of the orthopedic disorders treated are sports injuries, fractures, joint disorders, amputation, back and neck pain, arthritis and post-operative conditions.
If pain is a problem, then physiotherapy is the solution. Study and experiences prove that physiotherapy has been a very effective tool against pains and injuries ranging from minor to major. Hence the prescription of physiotherapy can never be a wrong one in case of curing pain or injury.

Physiotherapy Treatments & Therapies
Electrical Machine Therapy, Exercise Therapy & Other Therapies at Akshat Physiotherapy Clinic
Heat Therapy with heating pads
These are sound waves in greater frequencies i.e. 1 to 3 Mhz .
Ultrasonic therapy has 2 effects
Thermal (heat) effect
This is by mechanical vibration. It makes more oxygen available to tissues by increasing blood circulation. Greater circulation also means better removal of waste products and reduction in swelling.
Mechanical effect
This is due to waveform of ultrasound, which causes compression/rarefaction in tissues causing pumping effect and better resolution of swelling. It also helps in reducing stiffness.
Inflammation of Elbow Joint (Tennis elbow) ,Plantar fascitis(Heel pain),Shortening of Muscle or Ligament, Inflammation of tendons(For eg Supraspinatus tendnitis) ,Ligament sprain(For eg Lateral Ligament sprain of ankle) Unhealed scars

Ultrasonic Therapy with Ultrasonic Therapy machine
Interferential Therapy with IFT machine
- (IFT) uses a mid frequency – current for treatment.
- It is applied by electrodes attached to stimulator.
- Pain relief by- increasing local blood circulation, by helping release of painkillers in brain,
- Reduction in swelling by muscle contraction followed by relaxation.
- Relaxation of tissues.
- Useful for individuals with Pain, Muscles spasm (pain and tightness), Swelling Muscle strain
7 to 15 mins
There are two varieties cervical (for neck)
Lumbar (for lower back)
Useful for: neck/low back pain, nerve pain of postural origin, acute muscle spasm.
- Passive stretching of muscle helps in relief from pain and spasm.
- Helps in improving pliability of muscle.
- Relieves nerve pain arising from postural or muscular reason.
15 mins
Electrical Traction with Traction machine
TENS (Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation)
- It is applied by electrodes attached to stimulator.
- The actual painful sites are to be identified then the electrodes are placed.
- Blocking the gate for pain sensation at brain level
- Causing release of pain killers in brain
- Increasing blood circulation
- Giving massaging effect.

Types:
Modified Galvanic Current
In this treatment method the duration of current flow is long and continuous.
Used in cases of severe nerve damage
Surged Faradic Current
Shorter duration and intermittent current flow
Used in cases of partial nerve damage or nerve compression
Useful for conditions like
All Nerve injuries (like Radial nerve Injury of the arm or hand), Muscle weakness (To activate the muscle), Facial nerve Injury
Electrical stimulation is used to activate and train a muscle, which has lost its action or in training a muscle which has lost or ‘forgotten’ its action after an injury / surgery.

Functional Electrical Stimulation with Stimulators
- A block of paraffin wax is heated in a bath, which is a small electrical appliance that regulates the heat at which the wax is melted. Once the wax is in liquid form, the part of the body, usually hand, foot, wrist or ankle is dipped into the molten wax, and quickly removed. The exposure of the melted wax to the air causes the wax to harden. The recipient rests in the wax for an average 20-minute time frame, then the wax is removed.
Paraffin wax baths are recommended for a variety of ailments such as arthritis, bursitis, eczema, fibromyalgia, tendonitis, fibrosistis, inflammation, muscle spasms, fatigued or sore muscles, psoriasis, scar tissue, stiff joints and tennis elbow.

Swiss Ball Exercises
There are many benefits to incorporating ball exercises into your workout.
The ball exercises require little and inexpensive equipment, you'll only need access to an exercise ball and nothing more.
- The biggest benefit to training using ball exercises is that they are very effective at targeting core muscles, those muscles that are essential for stability and good posture but are often overlooked when exercising with fixed position equipment such as those found in gyms.

- Active assistive exercises are exercises performed by the patient or with the assistance of an external force as therapist, cord & pulley, weight & pulley circuit etc
Active assisted exercises are used when:
- The muscles acting on one of the body levers are too weak to bring about movement, or
- The muscles are too weak to control the movement adequately.
- For the restoration of mobility.
- It uses the strength of a normal lower limb.
- It improves reciprocal patterns of movements.
- It improves endurance.
- It initiates strengthening programs.
- It assists movement in case of muscle weakness.
- It increases ROM.
- It assists functional activities of ADL.
- Useful after removal of plaster cast.
- Following tendon or muscle transplantation.
As a method of muscular reeducation.
